Journeys to the core of life / Resan till livets kärna

A remarkable society is revealed by science, inside every one of the billions and billions of cells that make up the human body. Freeways, libraries, post offices, taxi drivers, construction workers build up a complex biological society in miniature.

Journeys to the Core of Life is a two-hour international science co-production produced in close cooperation with scientists from The Karolinska Institute and The Institute for infectious disease, together with medical photographer Lennart Nilsson. The photographer takes on a journey, together with scientists, to explore this unknown world of microscopic inhabitants. Here he tracks down, and portray one of humanity’s worst enemies: a terrorist known as the bird flue virus.

Reviews include:

In this latest film, Lennart Nilsson exceeds earlier expectations, with high resolution HD techniques, specially made lenses and unique miniature cameras. The driving force behind Journeys to the core of life has been medical aims, using the image as the tool. It’s amazing to view and it’s easy to understand the importance of the images. The films are exiting, like a political thriller! (Astrid Söderbergh Widding / Svenska Dagbladet)

The documentary is extremely enriching. It gives a brand new and deeper understanding of the nature of biological development. (Hans Bergström / earlier chief editor Dagens Nyheter)
