War Against Disease / Mikrobernas Krig

This one hour special takes us to the forefront of the war between us and the micro-organisms, to a never-ending battle far more crucial to mankind than any war between states.

With his wide range of unique optical tools, medical photographer Lennart Nilsson gives us the detailed story of how medicine works. He displays miracle drugs like penicillin and stem cell therapy in a way that not even their discoverers could have done themselves. For the first time ever we can present original scenes showing SARS and HIV viruses in close up, revealing their devastating activities. In the film we display how important medical discoveries were made such as the penicillin in the messy lab of Alexander Fleming or the remarkable human immune system in the basement at Russian scientist Mechnikov. We display unique portraits of individual antibodies: mans most important defence weapon, here enlarged 10 million times.
